R&B
Jukebox Timeline
by Rolando Garcia Founder
& Original Host
May
1996 – Joined KUVO as a substitute jazz DJ filling-in
spots wherever needed.
December 1996 - Began to regularly substitute for
JC on her Saturday night shift from 9-11pm. Leaned more into the
R&B side of the blues played by JC.
January 1997 – JC moved to Friday nights (7-9pm),
I got the 9-11pm Saturday slot. All Blues went from 6-8pm followed
by the pre-recorded program "Beale Street Caravan"
February to Early Spring 1997 – Continued
to incorporate the R&B sound into the bluesy-jazz mix. So much
that I would welcome listeners to "this bluesy R&B thing
we do on Saturday nights."
April 1997 – Officially established the name "R&B
Jukebox" to be able to include all R&B from the mid 40’s
into the late 60’s. Began to focus entirely on R&B. The "Beale
Street Caravan" show was dropped, and the R&B Jukebox was
on from 8-10pm.
May 1997 – Interviewed and written up in the
Denver Post by Dick Kreck with the title of his regular article, "Kudos
to KUVO for its Jumpin’ ‘Jukebox’ Sessions"
December 1997 – First annual R&B Christmas
Show
March 1997 – First annual R&B Gospel Show
(day before Easter)
February 1998 – First annual Mardi Gras – All
New Orleans Show
June 2000 – Awarded Best Radio Show by
the Denver Post. The four-hour block of All Blues and the R&B
Jukebox is shifted forward to start at 5pm.
October 2002 – Stepped down as host, Easy
Bill takes over as regular host
